Whenever a Nighknit is born, its parent bestows a protective silk blanket upon it. The silk is quite strong and actually does serve to defend against certain kinds of attacks, however it does become frayed over time. Nighknit will carry this blanket for the rest of its life, making occasional repairs as necessary. Each individual appears to have somewhat differently-colored silk, making these fixes noticeable as "patches." Normally rather shy and reserved, Nighknit nevertheless appears calm and confident as long as its blanket is secure - if it manages to somehow drop or lose it however, it will become increasingly anxious, sleepless, and potentially hostile! It's best not to even try to touch the blanket unless Nighknit implicitly trusts you. Primarily carnivorous, Nighknit are very patient hunters who will sit and weave elaborate silk traps to ensnare small prey which are dispatched with a paralytic venom. They do not mind eating occasional vegetable matter, but do require meat for the proteins to create their silk.
